OptiManage: Sustainable forest management

Lead by The Institute of Forestry Sciences (CSIC-INIA-ICIFOR), WP2 OptiManage’s overall objective is to improve sustainable forest management practices that allow simultaneously enhancing forest health and resilience and providing feedstocks and services. This will involve: i) assessment of possibilities to enhance resilience via tree breeding, and via early management actions; ii) identifying management alternatives to promote species mixtures that increase resilience; iii) improving knowledge of management practices impacts on forest health and resilience; iv) integrating multiple functions and deciphering the main trade-offs, specifically between biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and woody biomass; and v) designing sustainable management alternatives acceptable by main forest management actors.
