Methods and solution approaches developed in OptiForValue will be tested in four regional case studies to confirm their positive impact towards more flexible and sustainable forest management practices, increased resilience and agility of forest and value chains, higher wood value recovery and delivery, and protection of social, economic, and environmental values, among others.

The overall goal of the OptiForValue project is to enhance the value addition, competitiveness, sustainability and resilience of European forest-based value chains, particularly in regions already or forecast to be impacted by climate change over the coming decades. View case studies.

OptiForValue case studies - Forest Value Chain
By developing and testing innovative technologies and practices in four case studies and integrating the results, the project will provide cost effective best practice solutions to efficiently enhance the value addition, competitiveness, sustainability and resilience of European forest-based value chains, particularly in regions impacted by climate change.

OptiForValue Case Studies

The case studies and final integrated results are designed to test, expand knowledge, upscale and accelerate uptake of the developed methods and solutions on regional value chains in Central European, Mediterranean and boreal. This approach helps ensure the proposed solutions to enhance sustainability, resilience, and profitability are practical and adaptable across different contexts. The case studies evaluate the value from damage caused by storms, snow, and insects; value from resilience to climate change impacts (drought and fire); value from supply – a more competitive and resilient sustainable wood supply; value from demand for such a supply; and value from learning across these regions and for successful solution implementation of these best practices in other European regions.

Each case study is in partnership with local stakeholders researchers, forest managers, foresters, harvesters, producers and distributers of forest-based products, end-users including citizens who come together to co-create in the development of tools, methods & management practices.

OptiForValue regional case studies

Operating with end-users and other actors in real-life conditions, ensures that the solutions respond directly to challenges that forest managers and value-chain actors face on the ground.

Knowledge exchange workshops will be held with stakeholders to validate project results and outputs, show case support tools and guidelines that can be utilised beyond the project, and consolidate expert knowledge to further develop appropriate business cases along validated value chains and products.
